NYC MAKERS: THE MAD BIENNIAL
July 1 - Oct 12, 2014
In July 2014, the Museum of Arts and Design inaugurated NYC Makers: The MAD Biennial, an exhibition showcasing the vibrant creative communities across New York City's five boroughs. Curated under the leadership of new Director Glenn Adamson, the exhibition featured the work of 100 artisans, artists, and designers, highlighting the skill and innovation of contemporary makers. Spanning various fields, from fashion and furniture to art, film, and food, NYC Makers celebrated post-disciplinary practices that transcend traditional production categories. Makers were nominated by over 300 cultural leaders and selected by a jury led by Adamson and curator Jake Yuzna.
The exhibition, structured as immersive tableaus, hosted live programs including fashion shows, performances, and culinary events, transforming the museum into a collaborative production studio that embodied the cultural creativity of New York City.
