QUTTAINAH MEDICAL MUSEUM

A full-scale anatomical wax “Venus” by Gustav Zeiller now resides at the Quttainah Medical Museum in Kuwait.

This 19th-century moulage was originally housed at Castan’s Panopticon until the museum closed in 1922. Models like these provided anatomists and medical professionals with better insight into the inner workings of the human body.

In the 19th century, cadavers were scarce, so anatomists and artists collaborated to create lasting models for future generations to learn from. I feel honored to have lived with this wax moulage for many years and am gratified that it is now being viewed by those with an interest in medical history.
